Abstract
787,446. Chain-shift change-speed gear. JUY, L. C. H. Jan. 6, 1956 [Jan. 6, 1955], No. 570/56. Class 80 (2). To cater for different chain widths and numbers of rear hub sprockets in a chain-shift gear on a cycle, a shift-fork for shifting the chain on to either one of two different-sized pedal-crank sprockets is in two flanged parts 1, 2, secured together to give adjustable lateral spacing by screws 3 passing through inclined slots 2<SP>2</SP> in one part 2. To permit considerable chain inclination as for a large number of hub sprockets 5, Fig. 7, the spacing of the parts 1, 2 may, as shown, be greater at the rear. The shift-fork 1, 2 is carried on pins 7, 8 slidable in a carrier 6, the former, 7, in an adjustable push 9 which limits inward movement by abutment with a shoulder on the pin 7, the latter pin 8 being adjustably secured to a sliding sleeve 12 which limits outward movement. A control cable 10 draws the fork 1, 2 inwards against a return spring 13. The carrier 6 is attached to a frame tube by two half-collars 15 riveted at 151 to the carrier 6 and hooked at 15<SP>2</SP> to ends of a single complementary half-collar 16, attached by a clamping screw 17 to the carrier 6.
