836,862. Change-speed gear. JUY, L. C. H. July 3, 1958 [July 8, 1957], No. 21376/58. Class 80 (2). A cycle chain-shifter for use with multiple crank sprockets consists of a sleeve 6 bolted to the frame member 4 and supporting a transverse pin 8 loaded by a spring 10, one end of the pin carrying the chain-engaging fork 13 and the other being formed with a slotted head 9 for the reception of the end of one arm of a bellcrank lever 15, the other arm of which is connected to an operating cable 19, outward movement of the fork being limited by the engagement of the bell-crank lever with an adjustable stop screw 24, held in position by a compression spring 25. The axial position of the fork 13 on pin 8 is adjustable, securement being effected by a screw 11. The inner bearing plate of the fork includes an arcuate bead portion 26 of semi-circular cross-section to facilitate the passage of the chain to a larger sprocket.
