Abstract

795,049. Variable speed gear. JUY, L. C. H. Dec. 10, 1956 [March 15, 1956], No. 37648/56. Class 80 (2). A stop device is fitted to the cable of a chain shift type cycle change speed mechanism to limit the range of movement of the chain shift element. In one arrangement the cable to chain junction member 8, Fig. 5, abuts an adjustable stop 16 on the gear arm 2. In another construction the chain is enclosed in a cover member 23, Fig. 11, with an adjustable stop sleeve 25 sliding therein. A slotted projection may be provided to be engaged by the change speed chain to secure the mechanism in a fixed gear ratio in the event of a cable breakage.
