Abstract

289,221. Leyland Motors, Ltd., and Rackham, G. J. March 11, 1927. Axle attachments.-The end of a laminar spring is connected to the axle or frame through the medium of a rocking plate engaging a rotatable shackle pin to prevent twisting of the spring during relative angular movements between the axle and frame. The attachment may be used to connect one end of a cantilever spring to the axle, or the ends of a semi-elliptic spring to the frame. The rocking plate constituted by a curved flange 12 on a plate 11 secured to the spring 5 engages a groove 13 in a pin 9 mounted in a bearing 10 in a member 8 secured, as shown, to the axle casing 6. The member 8 may be enclosed by a leather cap 15 and filled with lubricant. The pin 9 may be capable of sliding transversely of the vehicle between end caps 10<a> in the member 8 so as to permit the wheels of a twinrear-axle type of vehicle to run slightly out of track with each other without stressing the springs.
