Abstract
641,952. Road-vehicle spring-suspensions. MOHL. S: May 5, 1947, No. 12066. Convention date, Jan. 18. [Classes 108(ii) and 108 (iii)] In a device for freely suspending the chassis frame of a motor vehicle having two axles, on the casing of at least one of the axles, by means of two laminated springs both of which are rigidly attached to the casing of the axle in question intermediate their ends, and at one end are themselves directly connected to a point of the frame located in the region between the vertical planes containing the axles and at the opposite ends are each connected to the frame at a point located outside this region, the flexibility of the spring portion located outside the region in combination with the resiliency (if any) of the members connecting the spring portion to the frame, is higher than the flexibility of the spring portion within the region, in combination with the resiliency (if any) of the members connecting the ends of the second-mentioned spring portion to the frame. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, leaves of the spring 2 are longer on one side of the axle to provide a more flexible spring portion 2a which is connected with the frame 1 by a link 5, arm 6 and torsion bar 7. The latter provides the suspension with a progressively increasing rate. In the construction of Fig. 1 (not shown) the torsion bar 7 is dispensed with and the end of the spring portion 2a is connected to the frame by a shackle. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 655,363.
