Abstract

434,330. Vehicle spring-suspensions. DAIMLER - BENZ AKT. - GES., Unterturkheim, Stuttgart, Germany. Feb. 11, 1935, No. 4428. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1934. [Class 108 (ii)] In a vehicle suspension one axle having independently spring-guided wheels is connected to the frame in such a manner that the latter can swing relatively to the axle about a central longitudinal axis and the remaining wheels are mounted on swinging half axles. The front axle e is connected to the frame by means of a pivot in the central longitudinal plane passing through a transverse frame member a<1> and a forked bearing member e<2>, the pivot being preferably arranged at about the height of the centre of gravity. The wheels b are mounted on the main axle e by parallel links d<1>, d<2> under the control of spiral springs f mounted as shown. The rear axle comprises swinging half axles i<1>, i<2> pivoted at each side of the differential casing and having helical springs k<1>, k<2> arranged between the axles and the frame a. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement of the front axle which comprises a transverse plate spring m to which the frame or body a is pivoted at m<1>, the frame being linked to the wheels by links l. If desired the pivoted frame a may have springs such as t, Fig. 5, arranged between it and the axle, or rubber buffers such as p, Fig. 4, may be held between plates q<1>, q<2> and be vulcanized to bearing sleeves carried by brackets s mounted on the frame a. Various other arrangements are described such as the mounting of the front wheels on bearings adapted to be guided vertically in cylindrical guides carried by the axle and controlled by helical springs. Instead of a pivot g the oscillating connection between the frame and the axle may be by arc-shaped bearing surfaces.
