Abstract
397,957. Vehicle suspensions. KIRKSTALL FORGE, Ltd., AYLWIN, E. A., and COWELL, F. R., Kirkstall Forge, near Leeds. April 13, 1932, Nos. 10588 and 11578. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii).] A spring suspension for the axles of a multiwheel motor-road vehicle includes a pair of longitudinally arranged laminated springs, mounted one on each side of the vehicle frame and located wholly or mainly below the level of the axle and brackets carried on the axle or axle casing to which are pivotally attached one or more leaves in both the upper and lower portions of the springs. In one form, two driven axles or one driven and one trailing axle are connected on each side of the vehicle by a laminated spring 12 articulated at 14 on a tube extending across the vehicle frame. Leaves in the upper and lower portions of the spring are articulated to brackets 15 mounted on the axle casing 6. The spring 12 may comprise two superimposed springs and the brackets 15 may be formed with extensions 21 forming bearings for the brake-operating gear. In a modification, the upper leaves or the lower leaves are shackled to the brackets 15. The springs may also be connected to the brackets by spherical bearings.
