Abstract

358,577. Road vehicle suspensions. MASON, H. E., 68, Queen's Road, Peckham, London. July 11, 1930, No. 21001. [Class 108 (ii).] In six-wheeled vehicles in which the frame is supported on the two rear axles by inverted equalizing springs, one of the springs is pivoted to the frame and the other may move longitudinally. The upper spring 8 is pivoted at 9 to the frame 11 while the pivot 12 of the lower spring 1 is free to move longitudinally and bears against a bridge member 13 carried by the upper spring. The ends of the springs are connected to shackles 2 projecting above and below the axles and freely mounted thereon. The movements of the forward axle are controlled by radius rods or by a torque tube 5 anchored at its forward end to the frame, while the rear axle is maintained at a substantially constant distance from the front axle. In a modification the sliding connection between the upper and lower springs is replaced by a pivoted link.
