Abstract

506,961. Vehicle spring-suspensions. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES. May 25, 1938, No. 15672. Convention date, May 25, 1937. [Class 108 (ii)] In a spring suspension for the rigid axle 4 of a motor vehicle of the kind comprising two opposed transverse links 10, 10<1> connected between the axle 4 and frame 16, the links 10, 101 are of rigid construction, while lateral stability of the vehicle frame is obtained through the medium of one only of the links, which is preferably directly connected to the axle and frame. In the arrangement shown, the axle 4 interconnects the wheel mountings 2, 2<1>, and the links 10, 101 are disposed in a substantially horizontal position, one link 10 being directly pivoted to the frame 16 and one mounting 2, while the other link 10<1> is connected to the mounting 2<1> through the intermediary of a pivoted link 12. Vertical springing of the vehicle body. is effected by means of longitudinal torsion bars 17, 17<1> connected by levers 18, 18<1> and 19, 19<1> to the links 10, 10<1>, which are of V-formation. Lateral shocks on the wheels are transmitted to the frame solely through the link 10.
