434,653. Vehicle spring-suspensions; undercarriages. TENNANT, W. J., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(Tatra Works, Ltd. Motor Car & Railway Carriage & Wagon Builders ; 200, Kartouzska, Smichov, Prague) May 10, 1935, No. 13852. [Class 108 (ii)] In vehicle undercarriages having a central longitudinal frame member the wheels are mounted on arms or levers which are connected to the longitudinal frame member through transverse hollow supports which are connected to the said frame member and in the same horizontal plane therewith, the transverse hollow supports being adapted to house torsional springs for the vehicle suspension. The longitudinal frame member 1 is provided with transverse hollow supports 2 at the ends of which are mounted arms 3 for the wheels 6. The arms 3 are connected to torsional springs 4 the inner ends of which are provided with abutments 11, 12 which may be adjustable by means of a shaft 10 and crank 9 or by means operating from the driver's seat, to vary the height of the frame from the ground and the spring characteristic. Various methods of adjusting the abutments are described. In the case of driving wheels the wheels are driven by means of gears or chains from a shaft housed in the transverse supports 2. Fig. 8 shows a transverse support 2 having two arms 29, 30, for separate wheels, one arm 29 being connected to a torsion bar spring 4 while the other arm 30 is connected through a slot in the support 2 to a rubber sleeve torsional spring 32.
