543,885. Spring suspensions. FIAT SOC. ANON. Dec. 11, 1939, Nos. 31990 and 31991. Convention dates, Dec. 10, 1938 and Nov. 29, 1939. [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A detachable motor froecarriage for a vehicle comprises the engine, clutch and change speed gear unit M, steering gear 12, 13, and control levers and pedals, mounted on the steering wheels by transverse links 4, 5 and springs 8, and all forming a unit adapted to be bolted to the vehicle frame or body 15, the usual transmission shaft being connected to the rear axle (not shown). The side frame members 15 may form part of the body of the vehicle. The place of the front axle is taken by a box-section transverse beam 1 having at each end a bracket 2 provided with a horizontal part 2a to which the frame 15 is bolted and a vertical part 2b carrying an engine support 11 provided with resilient bearings. The radiator R is mounted on the engine by means of brackets 14. The springing links 4, 5 are connected directly to the steering pin 6, so that space is saved laterally. The upper link 4 is mounted on an hydraulic shock-absorber 3. Rubber cushions 9, 10 are provided to limit the springing movement.
