Abstract
301,223. North, O. D., Hugh, P. G., and Scammell Lorries, Ltd. Dec. 22, 1927. Wheels and axles, arrangement of; spring suspensions. - Comprises a motor vehicle in which the driving wheets are arranged in pairs each adapted to osciliate about a longitudinal axis, each pair of wheels being driven by gearing so arranged and connected as to permit of the oscillation of the wheels about this axis. In the construction shown in Fig. 6, a pair of road wheels at one side of the vehicle is carried by a frame 24 pivoted at 25 on the chassis frame (not shown). In the construction shown in Fig. 10, eight wheels are mounted on a single axle casing 44. A hollow beam 45 is pivoted in each end of the axle casing, and each end of each beam has pivoted thereto a cross bar 46 on which a pair of wheels is mounted. The chassis frame may be mounted directly on the road wheels without the use of springs, or springs may be provided if desired. In the construction shown in Fig. 12, the beam 45 is controlled by a spring 51 fixed to the chassis frame and bearing equally upon each end of the beam.
