Abstract
443,757. Vehicle spring suspensions. LAKSHMANAN, C. D. S., 259, Iffley Road, Oxford. June 18, 1935, No. 17478. [Class 108 (ii)] In vehicles each front axle is carried by a separate axle which is mounted on a radius arm or frame one portion of the axle being under the control of a spring, the arrangement being such that as the spring straightens freedom is permitted to the axle to avoid twisting strains. The side chassis members are at the front connected by a rod 5 upon which are pivoted two arms 3 carrying at their free ends separate wheel axles 8 which are each also associated with a spring 7. In one form the end of the arm 3 is slotted as at 4 while in another form the axle 8 is carried by a slotted member 9 secured to the spring so that when the spring straightens or alters its shape the axle is not subjected to strains due to different paths of the centre of the spring and of the end of the arm 3. The spring 7 is hinged at its forward end but connected by a shackle 2 at its rear end. Covers for the arms 3 may be provided and in the case of the member 9 spiral springs may be arranged at the ends of the slots. In a modification the rod 5 may be rigidly secured at its centre to the chassis and at its ends to the sliding blocks 6 so that each half of the rod 5 serves as a torsion spring, in which case the laminated springs may be dispensed with and the axles guided in slots formed in members carried by the chassis.
