Abstract

298,562. Moitrot, C. C. Oct. 11, 1927, [Convention date]. Springs, arrangement of, and mounting undercarriages on.-One or both ends of each laminated spring are connected to the frame of the vehicle by oscillating levers pivoted to the wheel axle and pivotally and slidably mounted on the vehicle frame so that the arms of the springs, which are of unequal length, are displaced vertically by road shocks &c. through different distances, whereby the suspension is rendered aperiodic and vibration is diminished. In one arrangement, the axle, or a wheel, is provided with lugs c, d. Fig. 1, and a sole e to which the longitudinal or oblique spring f is secured at a suitable part of its length. One end l of the spring is connected by a shackle i to an intermediate point k of a lever g which is pivoted to the lug d and is provided at its face end with a roller h provided with cheeks and bearing on the chassis a. The other end r of the spring is connected by shackles o to the end p of a lever m pivoted to the lug c and provided at the intermediate point with a cheeked roller n also bearing on the chassis. The lengths of the spring parts and levers and the positions of the point k and rollers h, n are arranged to give any desired proportion between the movements under shocks of the spring ends l, r in order to lessen oscillatory movement of the spring. Either roller h, n may be replaced by a pivot fixed to the chassis. Two levers similar to the lever g may be employed, or two levers similar to the lever m, in which case the levers may be identical. One lever only may be used, of either the form g or the form m, the other end of the spring being pivoted or shackled to the chassis. In another arrangement, two levers s, s<1>, Fig. 6, are pivoted to a lug. c on the axle and have rollers h, n bearing on the chassis a, the other ends of the levers being connected by shachles o, i to the ends of an inverted spring f secured to the sole e on the axle. The lengths of the lever arms are chosen as desired, and both may be of the form s, and may be identical, or of the form s<1>. One roller may be replaced by a pivot on the chassis.
