Axial-flow type; working-fluid supply.-In a turbine having expansion chambers A in rotors b, c with intervening columns oi water, and being driven by the passage of the water from one rotor to the other by way of a stationary guide ring d, the oscillation of the water columns is caused by the admission of steam through jets f to the expansion chamber alternately and the subsequent condensation of the steam by cooling water introduced at jets h. The expansion chambers are maintained by centrifugal action on the rotating mass of water and surplus water passes from the inner surface of the mass through outlets l. The apparatus may be adapted for compound working and the last or an intermediate stage may be in the form of an ordinary turbine. Easily condensible substances other than water may be used and the heat carrier may be different from the oscillating liquid.
