Abstract
288,929. Perress, J. H. L., and Perress, T. E. L. Nov. 23, 1927. Working-fluid supply.-A gas turbine comprises a rotor 2 having blades 3 to the pockets between which gas is supplied under pressure from a chamber 11. The charges are exploded by a sparking plug 17, and react on fixed blades 13, and then pass to an exhaust 15. A vacuum chamber 16 is provided to draw any exhaust gases &c. carried round by the rotor. 'The pressure in the supply chamber 11, and the vacuum in the chamber 16 may be established by fans on the rotor shaft. According to the Provisional Specification, the rotor may be provided with pockets from which the remaining exhaust gases may be removed by a spring-controlled plate. Cooling parts.-The bottom of the casing 5 is formed as a sump containing cooling water or other liquid through which the rotor passes The water is circulated through a radiator, and the stationary vanes and casing may be jacketed or finned. Leakage-preventing devices.-The rim of the rotor 2 is formed with grooves 8 co-operating with ribs of anti-friction metal or asbestos on the fixed segmental part 6, and packing pieces 10 of part-circle shape are arranged on each side of the chambers 11, 16.
