Abstract

728,347. Cooling engines. LIST, H. July 20, 1953 [July 23, 1952], No. 20118/53. Class 7(2). In a liquid-cooled engine wherein a fly-wheel 3 is partially enclosed in a casing 7 of involute form and functions as a centrifugal blower to supply cooling air to a radiator 10, the radiator is located adjacent the air discharge orifice of the casing and the relative positions of the radiator and flywheel are such that the plane of impingement of the air is parallel to the axis of the flywheel. The radiator is disposed above the casing 7 and is offset from the vertical central plane of and in the direction of rotation of the engine. A ring of impeller blades 6 may be secured to the rim of the flywheel. The radiator may be resiliently mounted by rubber joints 22 on a projection 11 of the casing 7 and a fuel tank 17 also mounted on rubber joints 24 may form an extension 21 of the casing. A space 26 in the casing and closed by a door 27 may be used as a tool store.
