Abstract

284,806. Pitt, G., and P. & F. Engineering Syndicate, Ltd. Aug. 10, 1926. Reflexed-flow type; circular-flow type; leakagepreventing devices; reversing.-In a turbine in which the rotor is provided with U-shaped bockets g, l, m, r, s, 1, 2, 3, arranged in zones and the stator with U-shaped directing passages h, i, p, q, 4, 5 whereby steam exhausting from the buckets in one zone is directed on to the buckets in the next zone, the rotor and stator on their adjacent surfaces are provided with rings or flanges 32 that extend into grooves 33 on the opposed surface with a. minimum clearance so as to retain a liquid seal to prevent escape of motive fluid. A reversible turbine is shown having buckets for forward rotation on its periphery and for reverse rotation on its ends but separate rotors may be provided. The buckets shown for forward rotation g, l, m, r, s are double U.shaped and the steam supplied by central nozzles e passes laterally to the succeeding stage buckets and acts on an increasing number of buckets in each stage.
