Abstract
481,065. Turbines. FOURCADE, H. May 14, 1937, No. 13641. Convention date, May 15, 1936. [Class 110 (iii)] The turbine comprises rotors 4, 18, secured to shafts 5, 23, which rotate in opposite directions. Motive fluid is supplied through the shaft 5 to the interior of the rotor 4, and is ejected through nozzles 16 on to blades 19, causing the rotor 18 to be driven forwards and the rotor 4, backwards. Power is taken off the shafts by means of pulleys 17, 24. To exert a braking effort on either shaft, either pulley may be stopped by the engagement of a conical clutch 40. The working fluid which may be water, steam, or gas, is exhausted through a pipe 25. Fig. 4 shows a plant in which steam, supplied through a pipe 28, through an injector draws up water through a pipe 29. Air may also be admitted to the mixing chamber 27 by way of a pipe 32. The water exhausted from the turbine 1 is returned to the supply tank 31, which may also supply the steam generator. The speed of the turbine is regulated by controlling the mixture of fluids supplied through the shaft 5. The convergent - divergent nozzles 16 may be replaced by orifices with bevel edges.
