Hand-actuation; blocks and shoes.-The tongue by which a wagon for children may be drawn along and which can be swung back to serve as a tiller for coasting is adapted to apply a brake when in the coasting position. The wagon comprises a box or body 2 mounted on bolsters 6, 13 the front bolster being secured to the under member 11 of a turn-table of which the upper member 9 is secured to the body by a brace 10. The tongue 20 is hinged to a yoke 18 secured to the bolster 13 and in the swung back position rests in a crotch 26 disposed axially in line with the king-bolt 12 of the turn-table and attached to a push-rod 25 connected to a cam 22 mounted on the turn-table member 9. A cable 35 and rods 34 extend from the cam to a brake beam 30 suspended by arms 29 from the body 2 and carrying at each end a brake member comprising a yoke 31 to which is attached a brake band 32 for engagement with a drum 17 on the wheel 16. The brake is normally held off by springs 33, 27<1> but upon depressing the tongue the bands 32 which have normally a greater curvature than the drums engage the drums and by reason of the flexibility of the arms of the yokes 31 gradually conform to the surface of the drums. The contour of the cam 22 is such as to effect the application of the brake at an increasing velocity ratio in relation to the movement of the push rod 25.
