Abstract

214,436. Brown, F. A. J. April 3, 1923. Locking by frictional detents: forcetransmitting mechanism; blocks and shoes.-In a brake for platform trollies, which is automatically applied by springs when the vehicle is standing and is released when the handle is lowered to propel the vehicle, the connecting means between the handle and the brake mechanism is such as to prevent interference with the operation of the brake by the swivelling movements of the forecarriage of the truck. The brake blocks are arranged to wedge between the wheels and the underside of the truck. The wedgeshaped brake blocks a are mounted upon a member b which is arranged to slide in guides c secured to the platform of the truck. A forked member h, h<1> connected to the member b, b<1> sliding in a guide i on the platform and a guide i formed in the pad for the forecarriage carries an arc-shaped slotted part h' in which works a link g connected to the handle e of the truck which is pivoted at e<1> to the forecarriage. When the handle is released, springs d<3> raise it and apply the blocks a to the wheels. The provision of the arc-shaped connecting member h<3> prevents the swivelling movements of the forecarriage from affecting the operation of the brakes.
