Locking nuts.-A nut having a circumferential groove 5 which does not extend into the threaded bore is upset or deformed so that its axis is curved or deflected before application to a bolt. Pressure on one side of the nut partially closes the groove at 4 or a wedge may be driven into the groove on one side. The deformation may also be accomplished by elongating or twisting the nut.
