Abstract

282,973. Courtaulds, Ltd., Hegan, H. J., and Hazeley, E. Dec. 20, 1926. Cellulose xanthates, processes for making filaments from. - Artificial textile threads, filaments, bands, &c. are made by projecting into a bath containing sulphuric acid and 25 per cent or more of sodium sulphate, a viscose containing 2.4 per cent of added sodium carbonate, and sufficient caustic soda, say 7 per cent or more, so that the proportion of alkali radicle is considerably greater than the proportion of carbonate radicle, say in the ratio of 4: 1. The threads &c. show little or no inflation, are less lustrous than ordinary viscose silk, and possess a certain roughness on the exterior which gives them a felting or locking property like that of wool.
