517,047. Cellulose xanthate; artificial silk &c. SCHLESISCHE ZELLWOLLE AKT.- GES. July 16, 1938, No. 21184. Convention date, July 29, 1937. [Class 2 (ii)] Unbleached soda or sulphate cellulose pulp is subjected to xanthogenation, and the viscose obtained is employed in the production of filaments, foils, films, or the like. The products are bleached at or after the conclusion of the process of formation, e.g. the spinning operation. Adjustment of the viscosity characteristics of the viscose may be effected 'by varying the time of the digestion of the wood chips. In an example, the unbleached pulp is converted into alkali cellulose and then xanthogenated. The viscose obtained is spun into a bath containing sulphuric acid, sodium sulphate and zinc sulphate. The filaments obtained are desulphured and then bleached with a solution of hydrogen peroxide or chlorine. Specification 459,790 is referred to.
