Abstract

Cellulose xanthates and cellulose solutions, processes for making filaments or films from.- Artificial silk, films, and the like are prepared from aqueous cellulose solutions, such as viscose or cuprammonium cellulose solutions, by spinning them into a zinc chloride bath containing from 35-40 per cent of zinc chloride at 50-60‹ C. The filaments are stretched during spinning to avoid the formation of dull filaments and may be further stretched to increase their strength. In order to prevent sticking of the soft filaments owing to prolonged action of the zinc chloride, the filaments are preferably hardened in a subsequent bath containing water or dilute acid. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 283,481 and 298,548.
