Abstract
282,796. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Puffer, S. R., and Moss, S. A.). Dec. 29, 1926, [Convention date. Fluid speed-indicators. - An impeller 21 with vanes having a large axial width in proportion to their diameter delivers fluid from the impeller chamber through a narrow annular passage 25 arranged near the middle of the impeller vanes into a chamber 26 communicating by a passage 27 with a glass tube 12. An overflow pipe 33 leads from the top of the tube to a large fluid reservoir 5 at the bottom of which are passages 35 leading to the impeller. Owing to the large area of the reservoir, the liquid drop is small, and takes place over a part of the reservoir where the area remains constant. The impeller drive is by means of a worm 29 and a worm-wheel 28 on a shaft 30, end-play of the shaft 15 being prevented by a spring-pressed ball 17.
