Abstract

985,695. Rotary atomizing burners. REDHEUGH IRON & STEEL CO. Ltd. June 29, 1961 [June 29, 1960], No. 22761/60. Heading F4T. In an oil burner of the rotary atomizing type having an atomizing cup 1 supplied with oil through a hollow driving shaft 2, and an oil cut-off valve 5 located in a sleeve 7 at the junction of the cup and shaft, the valve 5 is controlled by a solenoid 15 energized simultaneously with an electric motor 44 driving the shaft 2. The armature 14 of the solenoid 15 is connected by a spindle passing through a gland in the wall of a chamber 9 to a bell-crank lever 10, 11 linked to a helically twisted strip 8 which extends through the shaft 2 and is connected to the valve 5 to rotate therewith or by a rotary coupling. The motor 44 is connected by V-belts 46 to a shaft 34 which drives the hollow shaft 2 through bevel gears 35, 36, and oil and metering pumps 40, 42 through gearwheels 38, 39 and a second shaft 37. A casing 28 is divided by a partition 29 into a gear-box 30 and an oil reservoir 31 having inlet and overflow connections 51, 53 and from which the metering pump 42 supplies the chamber 9 through a pipe 54. A centrifugal blower comprising a disc 17 having radial blades 19 is attached to a hub 16 on the sleeve 7. The blower is enclosed by a casing 20 having inlet ports 23 controlled by an apertured ring 24, and terminating in an annular discharge aperture surrounding the outlet end of the cup 1.
