Abstract
737,611. Rotary cup burners. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES), Ltd., J. May 25, 1954 [June 1, 1953], No. 15176/53. Class 75 (1). A liquid fuel atomizer comprises a rotary cup a, an axial fuel supply duct c and one or more centrifugally operable valves f arranged within the cup for admitting fuel from the duct to the cup. Each valve comprises a spring-loaded piston within a hollow arm e extending radially from a boss d secured to the end of the supply duct c which is constituted by an axial bore in the driving spindle b for the cup. The inner ends of the hollow arms communicate with the supply duct c and when the spindle rotates the valves allow the fuel to pass to annular grooves i from which it flows through tangential ports to the cup. A disc h is secured to the outer end of the boss d and forms between its periphery and the edge of the cup an annular outlet for the atomized fuel. The spindle is driven by an electric motor or by a turbine comprising a rotor k driven by the liquid fuel. The cup is mounted in an axial air passage r at the entrance end of the combustion chamber q of a gas turbine or jet engine.
