Abstract
281,633. Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Beers, G. L.). Nov. 30, 1926, [Convention date]. Thermionic amplifiers.-In order to obtain a straight-line selectivity characteristic in a highfrequency amplifier, the inter-valve coupling comprises a transformer having a primary with a natural frequency lower than the mid-range frequency of the system, and preferably lower than the lowest frequency the system is intended to amplify. The transformer primary is a multilayer coil 40, Fig. 2, and the secondary a singlelayer solenoid 41. The inductance of the primary 12, Fig. 1, is such that at the higher frequencies for which the system is designed, the reactance is capacitative, thus tending to cause negative feed-back at such frequencies. A certain amount of positive feed-back is ensured by the use of a condenser 11, which at the lower frequencies acts . as a neutralizing condenser in known manner. The condenser 11 thus has the double function of balancing both the positive and negative feedback, depending upon the frequency to which the system is tuned. Specification 147,147 is referred to.
