Abstract
281,013. Sloper, T. Aug. 25, 1926. Shock-absorbers, applications of.- A landing carriage for aircraft of the kind wherein a wheel is mounted on an inclined axle A pivoted to the machine at a point higher than its outer end and controlled by a spring strut B, has means for permitting movement of the wheel along the axle under spring control to prevent excessive lateral stress on the wheel during landing. The wheel is mounted on a sleeve C between a fixed flange C' and a removable split clip C<2>. A pin C' passes through the sleeve and through slots A<3>, A<4> in the tubular axle. and engages a movable abutment A<5> for a spring A<6> mounted within the axle. A ring A<8> normally prevents withdrawal of the sleeve. A bolt C<5> passes through the split end of the clip C<2> and through the end of the pin C3. Alternatively the wheel hub may slide directly on the axle end engage at its inner end with a flange connected to a spring within the axle.
