Abstract
457,983. Aircraft alighting gear. DOWTY, G. H., Arle Court, Cheltenham. June 7, 1935, No. 16602. [Class 4] [See also Group XXX] A hydraulic-jack for use in a retractable aircraft undercarriage is supported at fixed spaced points and has a displa,ceable attachment point 22 lying at all times intermediate the fixed points. As shown, a landing wheel 4 is carried between cross-braced shock-absorbing members 1 pivoted to the aircraft. Folding- struts formed of members 8, 10 are articulated to the aircraft and to the members 1 and are operated through links 13 by a hydraulic-jack. The hydraulic-jack comprises a fixed tubular guide 20, and an annular piston carried by a cylindrical sleeve 21. The piston, and consequently the undercarriage, are locked in their two extreme positions by a spring-pressed plunger 32 carried by the sleeve 21 and cooperating with recesses 35. The plungers are freed from the recesses by supplying fluid under pressure to an appropriate cylinder 37 in which moves a piston 38 carrying a projection 39. This fluid may be the fluid initially supplied for operating the jack. Specification 455,384 is referred to.
