Abstract

278,459. Rose, W., and Rose Bros. (Gainsborough), Ltd. July 16, 1926. Feeding webs. - In web-feeding apparatus wherein a rotatable feed-roller mounted within a pivoted framework co-operates with and is driven by a primary feed roller, and a lever and securing bolt are provided whereby the framework can be retained in the feeding position or released and moved therefrom by an operator using one hand only, an adjusting-screw is provided to regulate the pressure of the secondary feed-roller upon the web. The secondary feedroller 5, Fig. 3, mounted between the two arms 8 of a frame which is rotatably mounted upon a spindle 9 supported by lugs 12 on a frame 4 carrying the primary feed-roller 1. The roller 1 is driven either continuously or intermittently by suitable means, and the shafts 2, 6 of the feedrollers are provided respectively with pinions 30, 31 which are adapted to engage and drive the roller 5 when the rollers are in the feeding position. A lever 13, Fig. 1, rotatably mounted on the spindle 9 is provided with lateral lugs 26, 29 of which the former is provided with an adjusting-screw 25 abutting against a lug 27 on one of the frame arms 8, so that when the lever is swung clockwise, the frame carrying the roller 5 is moved into the feeding position. The lug 29 abuts against a lug 11 on the arm 8 when the lever 13 is turned counterclockwise, and moves the frame with it. To retain the roller 5 and its frame in the feeding position a lever 19 is pivoted at 20 to the lever 13 and is forked at its end 22 to receive two oppositely directed screwed studs 23 which project inwardly within an annular groove formed by two collars 24 on a slidable stop bolt 15 extending through the lever 13 into a recess 17 in the bracket 4. A spring 16 disposed between the levers 13, 19 tends to retain the, bolt. within the recess 17. The levers 19, 13 can be actuated simultaneously with one hand to withdraw the bolt 17 and swing the frame to carry the secondary feed-roller outwardly. A rectangular plate 32 may be supported on the bracket 4 near to the roller 1 to co-operate with a plate 33 supported on the arms 8 to form guiding elements for the web, the plate 33 being of greater depth than the plate 32 and bifurcated at its lower end to allow the roller 5 to project through it.
