Coating webs.-In stamp-affixing machines, a rocking frame 3, carrying the stamp roll 4, the feed-roller 6, and the severing and affixing plate 8, is pivoted at 2 in an outer casing 1 provided with a moistener 20 and with lugs 13, 16 for the actuation of the feed-roller and the plate 8. When the frame is rocked to the right by means of the handle 22, a stamp is fed beneath the plate 8, and when the frame is returned, the end stamp is moistened, severed, and affixed. When the frame 3 is moving in one direction, a spring covering a recess 56 in it presses a roller 52, which is carried by an arm 53 pivoted at 54, on to a roller 51 mounted in a tank 20, and when the frame is returning, the roller 52 moves the spring aside and is raised by another spring into the recess to damp a stamp.
