Abstract

640,385. Tape dispensers. KRUEGER, T. H. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 22106. Convention date, Jan. 20, 1942. [Class 18] A tape dispenser comprises a rotatable reel 22 having radially extending plates 25 to the edge of which pressure sensitive adhesive tape, fed from a supply roll 15, adheres, and a severing device 30 positioned adjacent the reel to sever the tape. The reel 22 is supported on a spindle 21 between two frame members and is rotated by a roller 55 supported on the lower crank of a handle 51, engaging a radially extending plate 25 on each revolution of the handle. A locking member comprising a lever 60 having a notched portion 67 for engaging an edge of a plate 25 serves to hold the reel stationary whilst a length of tape is severed. The lever 60 is biased into a locking position by a spring 68 and an arm 70 of the lever is engaged by the roller 55 on the handle to move the notched portion 67 of the lever out of engagement when the handle is operated to rotate the reel. The tape extends between the members 25, and when it is desired to remove a length the end of the tape is grasped and drawn into engagement with the severing device 30. The severing device 30 extends between the frame members which are provided with notched portions 35 to accommodate the device so that its position may be altered to render the tape readily accessible or to enable longer lengths of tape to be withdrawn. Several rolls of tape may be supported in the dispenser so that the tape from each extends over the plates 25.
