Edge-runners and pans. - In a crushing and mixing mill of the edge-runner type in which each roller rotates on a horizontal axis off-set from the axis of the central vertical shaft about which the rollers travel, the rollers are adapted to be positively adjusted in a plane perpendicular to the floor of the pan. The rollers may be simultaneously or independently adjusted, and means are provided for applying spring pressure to the rollers and for discharging the crushed and mixed material from the pan. As shown. Figs. 1 and 2, the rollers a are mounted on short horizontal axes b carried by arms c fixed on parallel shafts d mounted in bearings e on a central boss f fixed to a vertical shaft g driven by worm gearing h, j from the driving-shaft k. The axes of the axles bare parallel and equally offset from the axis of the shaft g. For adjusting the rollers, a bolt q, Fig. 3, passing through a lug r on one shaft d bears against the curved face r<2> of a lug r<1> on the other shaft d. For independently adjusting the rollers, each of the lugs r, r<1> may be provided with a bolt abutting against a fixed lug on the boss f between the lugs r, r<1>. Fig. 5 shows means for .applying spring pressure to the rollers; the lugs r, r<1> are extended and slotted to receive a bolt z carrying adjustable springs z<1> which bear on the outside of the lugs. The ploughs t, u are adjustably supported on rods v carried by the boss f, and the discharge plough w is mounted on arms x journaled on one of the rods v so that it can be moved to an inoperative position in which it rests on the other rod v. Figs. 6 and 7 show the rollers a mounted on the bent end-portions b of a shaft b<1> carried in a bearing e<1> in the boss f. The spring-pressed bearings e' are adjustable vertically by means of screws q<1>.
