Shaft couplings.-In means for effecting the relative rotary adjustment of shafts, spindles, rods, and the like, such as the inlet and exhaust cam shafts and ignition shafts for reversing and otherwise controlling Diesel and other internal. combustion engines, which shafts &c. operatecams, eccentrics, cranks, &c. in machine tools, engines, &c., juxtaposed shaft ends 1, 2 have oppcsitely directed spiral slots 3, 4 engaged by pins 7 with cylindrical, hemispherical, or coned ends and driven or screwed into an axially slidable sleeve 5, their ends being masked by sleeves 8. The sleeve 5 is actuated by a ring 13 engaging ball bearings 12 and operated by shoes 14 carried on a fork 15 secured on a sliding rod parallel to the shaft 1, 2.
