272,234. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Peters, J. F.). June 7, 1926, [Convention date]. Regulating transformers.-In order to reduce the number of tapping points necessary to obtain a particular number of ratios in a variable ratio transformer, the tapped winding 3 is subdivided into sections 13, 14, 15, 21 having a standard number of turns, for example a number corresponding to a five per cent variation, and a section 19 having one half, one and one half, or some other odd multiple of half the standard number of turns, the sections being connected through switch contacts 24 - - 31 in such a manner as to enable the section 19 to be utilized in different combinations with the sections 13, 14, 15, 21 thereby obtaining two and one half per cent variations in the active number of turns in the case of five per cent standard sections. An alternative arrangement is described in which tab section 19 has two and one half times the standard number of turns, and one of the other sections has twice the standard number of turns.
