Abstract
269,375. Jaussaud, L. S. July 14, 1926. Driving-gear.-To make the suction and compression strokes shorter than the expansion and exhaust strokes the connecting-rod 10 is attached to a crank pin on a shaft mounted in rotating discs 3. On the shaft are two planet pinions 4 which roll over two stationary sun pinions 5, the movement of the crank pin being shown by the curve a, b, c, d; the parts a-b and b-c correspond to the suction and compression strokes and the other parts to the remaining strokes. The drive is taken off the discs 3 which are fixed on two shafts. The cylinder axis X, Y does not pass through the centre of the shaft; in Fig. 3 are shown the axes of four cylinders. The cylinder walls are heat insulated to avoid loss of heat resulting from the long expansion stroke. Ignition is effected by the heat of compression, but at starting a sparking-plug is used. A terminal exhaust port 11 and valve-controlled exhaust outlet 14 are provided.
