Lift valves; actuating-naechanism; indicating opening.-A valve device including a safety means for preventing the unauthorized supply of petrol in motor road vehicles and for other purposes comprises a guided lift valve 5, Figs. 1 and 5, which is provided with a bottom V-shaped tooth 7 adapted to engage in a V-shaped peripheral groove in each of two (or more) discs 14, 20. The valve is closed and held closed by the edges of the discs until both grooves are brought into line. The disc 20 is operated directly by the knob 23 and the other by a projection 21 which engages a projection 17 on the second disc. The knob 23 is fitted with a pointer and with a spring plunger 26 adapted to engage in any of an annular series of recesses 27 and giving an audible click as it passes from one recess to another. To obtain petrol &c. the pointer is set to an initial mark upon the casing and then turned for a known number of audible clicks, which places the groove in the disc 14 under the tooth 7; the knob is then turned in the reverse direction also for a known number of clicks, which places the groove in the disc 20 under the tooth 7. The valve thereupon drops open under the action of the spring 28. In a modification the tooth 7 may be formed on a lever operating under the valve; the valve may also be fitted with a yielding spring-pressed face 6, as shown in Fig. 5.
