Abstract

507,474. Gas cocks; igniting gas burners. BRATT COLBRAN, Ltd., BRATT, L. A., and ROYALL, F. A. Sept. 17, 1938, No. 25255/37. [Class 135] . [Also in Group XI] To obtain an'accurately graduated flow a plug cock d has a solid, plug with a transverse' gap e adapted to co-operate with a series of openings s preferably of differing size forming. the inner end of the inlet or outlet passage. A ratchet wheel m co-operates 'with a spring finger n to give audible indication of the position of the plug. The ratchet wheel may form part of a pyrophoric igniter, in which case it is loose on the cock spindle and is normally held stationary by the spring finger. As the cock is opened a disc in the cock spindle first tensions a spring acting on the ratchet wheel and later a cam surface on the disc releases the spring finger and allows the spring to rotate the ratchet wheel and an abrasive member secured thereto in engagement with a pyrophoric element. In this case the audible indication of the opening is only given on the return movement towards the closed position.
