Abstract

265,277. Hider, G. E. Nov. 2, 1925. Cylinder-ends, putting into communication. - A cylinder has exhaust ports controlled by the piston and separate exhaust valves. The exhaust passages are connected to a bye-pass chamber with camoperated valves which are raised to connect the cylinder ends when the exhaust valves are closed to enable expanding fluid at terminal pres. sure to pass from one end of the cylinder to the other where it is compressed prior to the admission. The ports 2, 2<1> are controlled by the piston 3. and the exhaust passages 6, 6' leading therefrom, by valves 7, 7<1>. The bye-pass chamber 9 contains simultaneously-operated valves 10 which engage a double, rocking-lever 15 engaging a cam 13 on the valve shaft 14. The upper part 9<1>, 9<2> of the chamber 9 is connected with the upper parts of the exhaust-valve chests 5, 5'. On raising the valves 10, the cylinder ends communicate through the ports and passages 2, 2', 6, 6<1> and chamber 13 in the chamber 9. The chamber 9 may be connected to the valve chests 5, 5' through convergent-divergent nozzles to induce a higher velocity in the pressure fluid.
