Telephone systems. -For suppressing side-tone in a substation circuit comprising an induction coil PI, SI connected in the usual manner, an additional transformer M is provided having its secondary winding m2 across the receiver R and its primary winding w1 connected in series or parallel with the transmitter T. Current through the receiver due to an alteration of the transmitter resistance is thus neutralized by an opposing current induced through the transformer M. The winding ml should have a high ohmic resistance to prevent too much direct current being shunted from the transmitter. Suitable winding data for the induction coil and the transformer M are given. In a modification referred to in the Provisional Specification a coil connected across the receiver is wound on the usual induction coil.
