Abstract
554,367. Transformers for broad band signalling systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 19, 1942, No. 8435. Convention date, June 28, 1941. [Class 38 (ii)] In a broad band signalling wave transmission system, uniformity of attenuation and relatively low reflection is obtained by means of an impedance network 20, 21 which constitutes a tertiary winding to the two coupled windings 11, 13 and is adapted to neutralize the leakage inductance between them. This leakage inductance is diagrammatically represented at 19. In the arrangement shown a load 12 which may comprise central office equipment is supplied through the transformer 11, 13 from a source 8 of A.C. and a resistor 7 both of which may simulate a suitable carrier current transmission line 6. The impedance termination of the transformer 11 looking into the winding 13 is arranged to match the impedance termination of the line 6 and the impedance termination of the transformer looking into the winding 11 matches the impedance termination of the load 12. The invention may be applied to hybrid coils, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown).
