Abstract

340,693. Substation circuits. KAHL, A. R. and COVENTRY AUTOMATIC TELEPHONES, Ltd., of General Electric Co., Stoke, Coventry. Nov. 6, 1929, No. 33770. [Class 40 (iv).] In anti-side-tone substation circuits, the receiver R and a third winding C of the induction coil are connected in series across a resistance X, the arrangement being such that during transmission the potential drop across the resistance opposes the voltage induced in the winding C to prevent response of the receiver whilst during reception the potential drop in X assists the induced voltage in C to produce an augmented effect in the receiver. Figs. 3, 6 show respectively circuit arrangements for a centralbattery automatic-exchange substation and a localbattery operator's cir - cuit. Other circuit arrangements are shown for (1) a manualexchange s u b - station, (2) an automaticexchange s u b - station desk set with a fourwire connection between the standard transmitter - receiver - dial unit and the induction coil, resistance X, condenser and bell, and (3) a further automatic set employing a standard unit consisting of bell, condenser and two-winding induction coil connected by a three-wire connection to a modified unit comprising the transmitter, receiver, dial, resistance X, and an additional three-winding induction coil.
