Abstract
262,756. Merco Nordstrom Valve Co., (Assignees of Nordstr÷m, S. J.). Dec. 14, 1925, [Convention date]. Lift valves; grinding valves on seats; leakage, preventing.-In a screw-down lift valve of the globe type having provision for rotating the valve member upon its seating for grinding, the screwed spindle 17 is disposed in a bushing 19 provided at the lower end with an internal flange 21 seating on metal and compressible washers 38, 39 and at the upper end with a securing nut 26 which, when released, allows the bushing to be rotated and with it the valve member 11 upon its seating. The valve seating and the bevelled valve facing are each provided with annular grooves 10. and the spindle is formed with a chamber to contain an abrasive mixture or lubricant which can be forced by a screw 34 along passages 25 into the annular grooves 10. The compressible washer 39 allows a slight separation of the valve closure surfaces through which the abrasive mixture oozes. The lower end of the bushing 19 is provided with a lip portion 36 to coact with a fillet 37 on the valve when fully open so as to prevent leakage along the spindle thereby allowing the packing at 28 to be replaced.
