Abstract

22,423. Haddan, H. J., [Wardlaw, F. A.]. Oct. 1. Lift valves.-A blow-off valve is so arranged that it cannot be forced on to its seat by the operating-spindle. Spindles.-The valve spindle I has a head I' held by a screwed plug H in a recess in the screwed operating-spindle F, which has a circular stop Z to limit its downward movement. A modification is described in which a head on the operating-spindle engages an undercut groove on the back of the valve member. Packing, materials for and methods of.-In the closed position the stop Z rests on a packing-ring N of woodite or klingerite, held in a recess M in the casing A by a bonnet O, which also carries a stuffing-box P. Seats.-The semi-plastic seat J, of such materials as woodite, ebonite, vulcanized rubber, and lenolite, is gripped between two metal parts G, T provided with ridges K, and is heated and retightened before use. A loose metal cap L is fitted over the seat to prevent rapid wear at the edges. Repairing valves.-Repairs are facilitated by arranging a plug cock B in the casing between the main valve and the inlet flange.
