Abstract

Actuating; diaphragm valves; lift valves.-A stop valve, particularly applicable for use with cylinders containing gas under pressure, is actuated by a differential screw acting on a diaphragm, which acts as the valve member or as a packing-diaphragm. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the diaphragm D is clamped between a shoulder on the casing and a bonnet A<2>, and rests on the valve member A, which is pressed upward by a spring E and guided by a spider F. The actuating-screw c screws into the bonnet A<2>, and is recessed and internally screwed to engage a stein on a member B. The member B, which bears on the diaphragm, is prevented from rotating by a transverse pin b<1> engaging slots a<2> in the bonnet. In a modification, the member B is formed as a needle valve, the diaphragm being clamped between two nuts on the spindle. In a further modification, the valve member A is rigidly secured to the diaphragm and the member B is recessed to receive a screwed spindle secured to a cap screwed on to the casing. According to the Provisional Specification, the diaphragm may be dispensed with.
