Abstract

545,683. Valves. HARCOURT, B. W., and MANN, A. J. March 29, 1941, No. 4257. [Class 135] A screw-actuated diaphragm valve has a valve facing separate from the diaphragm held in contact therewith by an arched spring. As shown in Fig. 1, the valve o of conical or hemispherical shape co-operates with a seat p formed in the centre of a shallow cavity h in the main casing h and is supported by a flange o<SP>1</SP> resting on a sheet metal spring q of spider-like form. The spring q also holds the flange against the flat central part of a corrugated metal or other diaphragm clamped to the side of the main casing by a cover j. A bearing piece r resting on the other side of the diaphragm has a short spindle r<SP>1</SP> engaging a recess in the end of the screwed actuating spindle m. A spring strip u secured to the cover has a projection adapted to cooperate with serrations on a flange v on the spindle to hold the actuating screw against accidental displacement. The bearing piece may be in the form of a cap engaging a reduced part on the end of the screwed spindle. According to. the Provisional Specification a helical spring may replace the plate spring.
