Abstract

Liquid, gaseous, and pulverulent fuel furnaces. -The combustion chamber of a water-tube boiler provided at the sides, top, and bottom with water tubes is divided into two or more compartments each adapted to be fired according to the invention described in the parent Specification. The boiler comprises an upper drum g and a lower header k connected by water tubes l serving as a longitudinal partition, and lateral upper and lower drums or headers c, b connected to one another by tubes a and to the drums g, k by tubes h, i. Headers e, n springing from the upper middle drum and headers f, o springing from the lower lateral drums are connected by tubes d, m to form the end walls and a transverse partition wall, thus dividing the combustion space into four compartments. Each compartment is closed at the corners by a light wall p of refractory material, and burners (not shown) project through these walls so as to deliver fuel and air in the direction indicated bv the dotted lines q. Downcomers r arranged externally of the furnace connect the drum g with each of the drums b. According to a modification drums are substituted for the headers c, k and the headers e, n spring from the upper lateral drums while the headers f, o spring from the lower middle drum.
