Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; walls; cooling.-In a steam-generator furnace burning pulverulent fuel, of the kind in which the flame from downwardly-directed burners 11 bends upwardly to heat the boiler 8, the front wall B of combustion chamber A is formed of boiler tubes 15 having lateral fins 16 which are cut away at intervals to provide air-admission openings 19. The tubes 15 deliver into upper and lower headers 17, 18, the former communicating with the steam space of the boiler by a pipe 42 and the latter being fitted with a downcomer 41. The header 18 is also connected to the ash-cooling tubes 28 which are joined, by bends 30, to tubes 31 forming a lining for the rear wall of the furnace and extending through the wall 36 to a header 39 communicating by a pipe 40 with the steam space. The side walls 20 of the furnace are hollow and divided into compartments 21 each communicating with the atmosphere through damper-controlled openings 22 and with a similar compartment 23 formed in the space between the tubes 15 and the insulating lining 14 of the front wall. The spaces 23 are formed by slabs 24 supported on studs 26 and notched to fit against the tubes 15. The lining 35 of the rear wall is thickened at the lower part and, to allow for possible movement of the tubes, sand fillings 38 are provided at the points where the tubes 28, 31 pass through the walls 35, 36.
